So I guess I should update everyone on what has happened over the last few months. Welllll.... Denver chewed us up and spit us out! We moved back to SLC in June and then I got a job as a social worker right away! So I started a week after we moved to Utah, I've been working for over a month now and I like to place. Taylor is also liking his job. Elliott has entered the "terrible 2" he will be fine one second and then just burst out of anger, frustration or fits of crying. It feel like I'm living with a teenager, just cuter! Potty-training got set back with all the transitions we have had... we are still working on it. But at least he insists that his potato man go in the potty (see pic below).

We continue to settle in.... it is at least starting to feel real, there are still some day that I think about going to a place or eating somewhere and realize that I'm not in Denver! I will post pics of our cute place, Tay and I love the location and we are right next to a park so I can continue to run.

Does anyone else feel like this summer had just flown by? Can it really be August?

Transitions

And that is what I have been doing this last month... ending my time as a Grad student, school counselor, relationship with my clients, friends and own therapist..... I'm ending the life I have built here in Colorado in order to start a new beginning in Utah. It's weird because I realize Colorado is where I became myself, where I grew up and now I'm going back to the beginning, the place I left, so I can become grounded again. However, I feel like I'm coming back from war, changed.. forever and I wonder how I will "fit in" to the old system as my new self. How will people receive me, will I regress to old ways? It's hard to move on, all the while moving on to an old familiar place... but I have change inwardly and the external change serve as a symbol... a new stage of development. I think of the quote I put on my grad announcements by T.S. Eliot "and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time." How very literal this is for me right now, what an interesting and exciting idea of coming back to "home" and knowing it for the first time.

This weekend I finally graduated. Most of my family came out for the event, including Mom and Dad, Kim, Kris, Kira, Curtis and my mother and father-in-law. It was a fast, fun, tiring weekend and I am ready to rest!

Holy Moly I'm graduating this Friday!!!
Can you believe I have been in school for 3 years!!! Remember when I got accepted into Naropa Grad Program? Who knew when I said it would be a challenge and I would have ups and downs..that it would include: working full-time and going to school full-time for two years, having a baby, all the while doing intensive personal depth work!! FFFFEEEWW... I'm tired.

I've explore many parts of this world, but never really explore parts of myself. These last three years have been dedicated to taking a deeper look at myself.... there is a quote by John Welwood that sums up my experience, " Only when we slow down and really see and feel our distress can it have an impact on us. Then our pain can begin to awaken our desire and will to live in a new way." It wasn't all painful... I had some silly, fun times as well and I know my self exploration has not ended, it never will.

Now it seems another change comes, time of transition. I feel a little lost now that I have accomplished my goal. I feel very much in a neutral zone between ending and beginning. Finishing what I've done and not knowing what I will do. These are the times when I feel a weird kind of trust in allowing whatever needs to happen, happen and also nervousness about the unknown. It's also a time when things come together and are created in a sort-of fast, dream like way. All I know is I'm ready to take a breath.... a lllloooooonnnnngggg DEEP breath.

Potty Training Begins

A few months ago Elliott started to become interested in the toilet. So we have slowly been introducing him to potty training since then. He went once in the toilet and the rest of the time he tells me when he has gone in his diaper and we set him on the potty and he gets a potty treat. He also has a potty training book that he likes to ready while on the toilet.
We had a set back last month when he went to the bathroom on the ground... it freaked him out to see his own poop! He ran out of my room screaming "GROSS!!!" He has regress a little since then, but I can't wait for this summer when I will let him loose in the backyard with only his b-day suit on and he can run free to poop and pee as he pleases! HA!

I know there is controversy surrounding Yoko and Johns relationship. I always thought it was beautiful. They were in love, introspective and damn the world if you didn't like it.

Doily Installation

I LOVE this street art doily installation... the use of doilies in a "weblike" manner gets me all jazzed up! The thought of walking past something like this while I'm strolling on the beach kind of sounds magical... that's right Taylor I said MAGICAL!!! (I must admit I think just the thought of walking on a regular, no web doily beach sounds magical right now). All I want is for my mother to teach me how to make doilies now!

I don't know if you have noticed a lack of writing the past few months.....in fact I don't know if anyone even reads my blog, but I use it as a type of journal so it's mostly for me anyway.

I know I've been a little slow on the updates of my life. I am currently finishing up my last semester at Naropa and also my internship. Which takes up a lot of time and at the same time seems less hectic then other semesters. I'm taking some interesting classes this semester including career development (where we explore or personal career aspirations and also how to work with clients who are seeking career changes) and meditation- exploring self compassion and we are reading an excellent book called The mindful path to self-compassion. It's an easy read with great meditation/self reflection exercises.

In true Wilsure fashion everything changes in blink of an eye around here. Taylor's contract for hire job ended and we are left trying to figure out what that means financially and career wise for our family in the future. I'm also starting to think about applying for jobs, since when the semester ends I'll need one fast!! Taylor is thinking about a career change and talk about planets aligning since this is the class I'm taking right now! He is thinking about teaching... so we will see where that leads. One thing we both agree on is that copywriter is just not a steady, career choice and it's time for a change.
If I have learned one thing in the past few years it is the only thing you can count on is the impermanence in life.

We had a fun and relaxing Thanksgiving with Mark and Shauna. Elliott was sick, but he wanted to be held and the grandparents were happy to oblidge! We had a great thanksgiving feast... I though we got pictures of it, but apparently not!!! However, I of course got pics of my homemade pumpkin pie!
I had so much fun shopping with Shauna all weekend and and I got a whole new kitchen for christmas... well it seems like it!! Personally, it was more fun then opening presents!
Elliott was so sad when I had to drop off his Nanna and Papa and he cried when we drove off.
Luckily we will be is SLC soon enough!

Due to Elliott being a crazy bed rocker we decided to try out the half crib. We will see what happens this weekend! He is confused about how to sleep, but he is enjoying the easy access in and out of bed. Also he can get to his toys instead of sleeping!

Halloween was a blast this year. We hosted a Halloween brunch with friends in the morning (which lasted all day). We served pumpkin pancakes, which were delicious, fruit, and veggie sausage. For desert we had pumpkin pie :) YUM! It was really fun to have something during the day to celebrate the holiday... minus the hornets that also liked our meal.

We then took Elliott trick-or-treating with our neighbors. It was very busy and the streets were full of kiddos. Elliott tried his best to say "trick r treat" but could only get the fluctuation. He was the cutest little veggie-burger around.
Sorry no pictures of us dressed up this year. We dressed up for two parties on the 29th and forgot our camera!!! RATS!

Now you know I am not one to post about cooking cause really who the crap cares? Plus I suck at it, but I just had to brag about the soup I made just to say I cooked and you didn't (or at least that is what I like to tell myself.) Also I think my mom would be so proud...

Butternut Squash Soup

yyyyyyyyuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmm gooooooddd!

Even Elliott enjoyed it with some broccoli and cauliflower (glad he takes after his mom as a non-picky eater! Just in case you want to try it or pretend you will try it:
	6 cup(s) reduced-sodium non-chicken broth
	3 pound(s) butternut squash, peeled, seeded, and cut into 1-inch cubes
	1 medium leek(s), cleaned and sliced (white and light green parts only)
	1 medium parsnip(s), peeled and cut into 1⁄2-inch slices
	1 medium apple(s), Granny Smith variety, peeled, cored, and chopped
	1/4 cup(s) fat-free half-and-half
	1 1/2 tsp curry powder
	1/2 tsp table salt
	2 Tbsp chives, fresh, chopped

Instructions

Bring the broth to a boil over medium-high heat in a large saucepan. Add the squash, leek, parsnip, and apple; return to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, partially covered, until the squash is soft enough to mash easily, about 25 minutes.
Remove the pan from the heat; let the mixture cool for a few minutes. Transfer the mixture in batches to a food processor or blender and puree. Return the soup to the pan. Stir in the half-and-half, curry powder, and salt; return to a simmer. Remove from the heat and stir in the chives. Yields 1 1/3 cups per serving.

Our visit to SLC

We had a blast during our recent visit to SLC. We where able to see a lot of our friends and family and meet some our friends new additions. I was able to see my new niece, Lilly for the second time... she is so chunky and cute! We got family pictures with the Williams and Brennan headed off to Texas to start a new chapter of his life. Elliott got to play with his cousin Desmond and I'm surprise how much they are starting to look alike ... give or take a few inches!

We stayed with Curtis and Sophia and Elliott got to try and keep up with Deacon.

Elliott loved playing in their curtains and Duck had a great time licking Elliott.

3 Years in Denver

We have officially been in Denver for 3 years! A lot has changed during that time...I feel more so than any other time in my life. And YOU have not come and visited me once since I've been HERE! (except if your name is: Carmen, Kelly, Lauren, Gaza band, Thayne, Brain, Mike, Ian, Mom, Curtis, Sophia, Shauna and Mark Williams.) So now that my life is not sooo crazy I'm extending an invite to visit, I recommend Summer or Fall... because winter sucks.

I love growing a garden. It reminds me of my childhood in Idaho because my parents always had a huge garden and we would eat from it all summer long. I loved going out and looking for the beans, squash and other veggies growing in our garden. It's something I want Elliott to experience and enjoy the deliciousness of fresh veggies, just can't beat the taste!
This year we grew: beans, peas, zucchini, tomatoes, carrots, beets and cucumbers. This was the first year I actually grew big carrots!! I've been making salads with my carrots, tomatoes and cucumbers and I have to say they are awesome. Elliott loves beets, zucchini, and cucumbers. Taylor likes nothing (except peas and carrots) HA!

The Great Stupa Trip

For our first weekend together (no work!!) we decided to take a trip to the great Stupa in Fort Collins. It is located at the Shambala Mountain Center where you can go to many Buddhist meditation and yoga retreats....if I had the money and time I would like to go to one.
What is a Stupa you say?
Well this is what I got from the website, "Stupas are said to promote harmony, prosperity, longevity, good health, peace, and freedom from ignorance. They subdue fear, corruption, and pollution, and bring blessings to the environment in which they are built, to those who build them, and to those who visit and venerate them. In this way, they ensure that the living quality of the Buddhist teachings will always be available."
It's a very beautiful place and like all places that people come to contemplate it has a special energy to it.
This place is special to me because two years ago in Oct. we went to see the Stupa for the first time and it was the day I found out I was pregnant with Elliott. I told Taylor at a gas station on our way up. Lauren was also there and we told her later that weekend. When we went up to the Stupa that day it was cold and wet and everything had frozen ice on it and it seemed as though the forest was covered with crystals. As Taylor and I sat staring at the beautiful view, a deer came down from the forest and stood watching everyone and grazing. It was such a peaceful and surreal experience.

This second trip to the Stupa was on a warm summer day. We hiked all around the grounds and Elliott loved running around in the fields. Please note that in the pictures Elliott is wearing 2 different shirt due to a big blow out! Luckly, I always pack an extra onesy.

Can't believe summer is almost over

At least it is for me! I start my internship next week and it's the last week of work and the next week I start school! We are trying to soak in the last few weeks of the great weather... spending lots of time at the pool.

The Elliott update:

I need to start doing my monthly updates again so you can all get the scoop earlier.

Elliott currently weighs: 19 pounds, he is in the 4%.... HA! We suspected he would be a small guy.

His favorite thing is to read books. He absolutely loves to look at a book, babble a little.... like he is reading it. He also likes to bring the book to me and have me read it to him. He grabs my finger and points with it to pictures in his books. Elliott is a very curious child.

Words he is saying: No, Bee, Blue, Yellow, Thank You, Ball, Uh Oh, Oh WOW, Dad, and Mom. He has three teeth in the bottom and two on top.

He is walking, but only from furniture to furniture, he still prefers to crawl and frankly I don't mind at all. He is super cute loves to cuddle. When he is tired he grabs his favorite blanket from grandma Leasure, bring it to his face and bites it!

summer time update

Sorry for the delay on updates! We are enjoying our last stretch of summer time. I have less than one month left of work and then I will be quitting so I can finish my last year of grad school with an internship at Odyssey School as a school counselor.

We have been enjoying a lot of Elliott's first this summer including:

First time at the pool

first big injury (dog bite)

First time at the zoo

First time at the sandbox

First time playing in the sprinkler

Elliott is a total water baby... fearless and I think we will have to keep a close eye on this boy.

In June we also went to the Bahamas with Curtis, Sophia and a ton of old and new friends. We had a good time (minus the sunburns!) and we celebrated Taylors 34th birthday while we were there.

Today I was talking with a co-worker about my MA counseling education and it occurred to me of how different it has been from other traditional schools of counseling. I found this video about the Naropa educational experience http://www.naropa.edu/video/experience.cfm and I find I fully agree with what is said. I got a little sad about the fact I only have one year left, but excited I will not have to be working or be pregnant my last year at Naropa!! ..... and just incase you are wondering, yes the Naropa bow is real and we do it before and after each class! HA!

Here is Elliott at 12 months. This month he started clapping his hands, crawling, crawling and more crawling. His favorite toys are anything in the kitchen he can grab, anything that plays music and the vibrating bee (he learned to pul the string.) He still has no teeth, but I can defiantly see them coming in and he has had a few fussy nights that I think is due to teething.

P.S. I changed Elliotts 11 Month picture because the contrast was weird and it bugged me. HA!

What a crazy month for the ratboy and the family. Elliott had an ear infection and then a cold (which we all got) and also his first black eye!

A lot has changed, he is now crawling (well more like an army crawl.. he doesn't lift his butt) and he can sit up and pull himself up to standing position. He can also feed himself and likes little solid food..... but still NO teeth!

On the family side, I had finals this month so I was gone a lot, while Tay has a contract for hire job so we have been scrambling to find people to watch Elliott during the week! ARGH, when will things just be simple and easy!

Elliotts favorite toys right now: a spinning egg that lights up and random household things like the brush that gets hair of the furniture, measuring cups and spoons and the stopper behind the door.

Rat boy was not interested in having anything but his cloth diaper on for his 10 month picture.... yes he is asserting his independence!

Elliott is holding his favorite toy, cup & ball, which we have recently stored away until he is older because he can fit the entire ball in his mouth and we are nervous new parents. Elliott has also rolled off the bed twice and sadly both times I was on baby duty (good thing Tay's the full-time parent!) He loves to gurgle his milk in his mouth and spray it all over his face.

He is becoming quite the musician and did his first track (crying) for Taylor's friends band and also got some drumming tips from Gordon, the drummer for Tay band.

Today is mine and Taylors 9 year wedding anniversary! So many things have happened in those 9 years, but I thought I would try to narrow it down to the 9 best things since we have been married:

We found out we had a leak in our main water pipe when we got a bill for $200!! After the city came out and looked at it they determined it was on our side and wouldn't pay for it. Our home owners insurance wouldn't either due to the fact that our house and yard were not damaged. So once again our parents came to the rescue! We spent a few days filling containers up with water and running up and down the stairs turning the main water line on and off when we needed to use it. Luckily, we got this all taken care of within a week. I can't believe the luck (or unluck) we are having. Thanks, to our parents we have been able to get by this past year or so.

Elliott is 8 months! He is in a really fun phase right now and I'm loving every moment with him. He is learning so much: rolling on his tummy to grab things, drinking from the sippy cup, holding his own bottle and sitting up.

His favorite things are jumping in his play set, grabbing at the pets, spitting in faces, and babbling.

His favorite toys are: toy cell phone, foam book, rattles, and pokey.

When Taylor and sold our house and decided to move for one moment I was tempted to buy a RV and travel around the USA. I looked at Taylor and said "lets do it!" Taylor was not ready for such an adventure....

But I love to read about people that do things outside the box, especially those who live like Gipsies! There is something so refreshing and inspiring about living an non-conventional life style. Some day (hopefully sooner than later) I want to join the ranks too.

Wilsures in SLC

For the holidays me and Elliott went to SLC for a week.... Tay came a few day later.

We enjoyed our time there and it was really nice to have family who wanted to watch

We had Christmas in Colorado this year. We started off with a Christmas Eve dinner

and then went with Austin to the Botanical Gardens to see the lights, which were awesome... but we got too cold at the end.

This morning I let Taylor sleep in while I prepared a surprise crepe breakfast.

We then opened presents and looked in our stockings. Elliott loved his presents, but loved the wrapping paper even more. The cats did too!!!

We spent the rest of the day eating leftovers, napping and watching movies! Perfect relaxing Christmas. Me and Elliott head off to Utah tomorrow and Tay will meet us in a few days.

Thanksgiving at the Wilsures

We had a small little Thanksgiving at our house with our friends: Carrie, Nick, his girlfriend Cincere and her friend Dario. We had the traditional thanksgiving Dinner (minus the Turkey of course) and of course I made my pumpkin pie, which I though turned out nicely. Taylor and I made most food, but everyone brought something little extra to eat. After dinner we watched a few movies and Austin joined us for that part. It was a pretty mellow, relaxing day.

Spirituality

I don't usually talk about spirituality with others. It's always felt like such a personal experience and trying to explain it to others seems to just marginalize my spirituality. All my life I felt there was a difference between practicing a doctrine and experiencing my spiritual side, sometimes these two would coincide and other times they would not. Of course at a young age I couldn't explain this, but now I understand what that feeling is for me.
Spirituality for me comes with the experience of being one and whole with everything. Situations where I feel separate, individualized and more special than others seem to diminish my spiritual experience. I think this is why being in the wilderness and outdoors brings such peace and happiness inside myself. This is where I feel most connected to everyone and everything. Also this would explain my career choice since it is all about relationship with others.

Anyway, what triggered this thought was as I was driving to work today Neil Young's song "When God Made Me" came on. I think the lyrics to his song really sums up how I feel about religion versus spirituality (except for the "he" part, ha!).

Can you believe he is 5 months! He has started to roll over on his own, he started eating solids, he love squash and sweet potato! Elliott laughs all the time. This will be his first Halloween and I can't wait to get pictures of him in his costume. Taylor and I think he looks a little like grandpa Dan in his 5 month picture!

School Update

So I'm in my 1st semester of my second year. Things are really starting to move fast and I'm already getting prepared for my practicum interviews and internship application.

One subject that I'm becoming interesting in is the death and dying process. I've been reading some good books on the side about this subject in a more eastern philosophy. It's really such a different perspective on death and dying then in the western culture.

One book I really like is Being with Dying by Joan Halifax. She is a buddhist teacher and Zen Priest who has a lifetime experience with being with dying. Learn more about her here.

I also have this book on CD so I listen to it on my drives to and from school.

I also like the book: Who Dies? An investigation of conscious living and conscious dying. By Stephen and Ondrea Levine. This book looks at being conscious about the impermenence of life so we can live a more meaningful life right now.

I defiantly think having a job where being around people who are in the last stages of their life has influenced my interest in this subject.

In addition, a few weeks ago I sat with one of my residents as she passed away and sharing that experience was such a powerful moment for me. It reminded me of birth... this feeling of wonderment and honor for being given the opportunity to share that important moment with her.

I'm not sure where I will go with my training as a counselor, but I always like to find ways to use what I'm learning in the present moment.

It's that time again?!? Here is our cute little house all decked out with Halloween Decor.

My Kitchen.... I have 2 sets of Halloween plates and I switch them up each year. This set Sophia gave me for my birthday...Tay and I bought this jack-o-lantern cookie jar the first year we were married... So it's almost 9 years old!

I decorated the shelves with some old and new things. I got this weird witch in a pumpkin years ago.Tay got these great pictures last year that have a old-timey face which turn evil as you walk past it.I love Halloween decorations that have an old vintage feel to them.

This is the Halloween cross-stitch my mom made for me. It says "on a clear and starry night, Halloween is such a fright, witches roam and goblins too, then home to bowls of pumpkin stew."

I can't believe he is growing so fast! Here is my little Rat boy at 4 months:

Elliott currently weighs 12 pounds and 13 ounces. His height is 24 inches.

He started daycare this month. We were lucky to have our friend, Jodanna be his

sitter and in-addition she has a son who is exactly a month older then Elliott.

They love to stare at each other. He also loves to stand, get kisses from Pippen, and

he finds it hilarious when Dad makes whistling noises. He also had his first cold this

month. He was such a sad baby, with a stuffy noise and cough. It's starting to get cold

here and I realized I don't have a lot of warm outdoors outfits or Elliott. So I'm going

to go get some soon.

On the Mom front: I'm just having a fun time being a Mom. I started to have Monday and Fridays off of work and school so I'm able to have one-to-one time with Elliott. I always try to plan a fun outing or a visit with Elliott's friends.

Let Talk Project Runway

This is mostly for my old Project Runway Crew in SLC.

This week I really liked the pregnancy challenge because I just went through trying to find outfits that were cute and comfortable for my prego body.

I agree that Shirin's design was the best.

I wish I had that coat while I was prego. I loved it!

I disagree with Malvin being eliminated.

Yes, his design was wierd, but at least he executed it. (Although looking at that picture of him... I would probably have eliminated him for that! HA!)

I think Mitchell (aka: Ian)

has not been able to execute his ideas for both challenges. His cracks under pressure. Those shorts were awful!

Who do I think will win?

I like Louise's Style, but I'm afraid she will get stuck in era designing like Kenley did in the last season.

So I'm thinking Irina has something up her sleeve! I really liked the dress she made too.

So far I am enjoying this season of Project Runway!

The Best Thing About Back To School

Is the clothing. It's the only upside to having to go to school and feeling the weather get colder.I Love Fall because it is the best season for clothing . I love the textures and colors and these are some of my top pics:

I love a classic Pea Coat. As far as style goes, they stand the tests of time. This one is from Delias.com
I'm loving the neck on this coat from Urban Outfitters and it would be great for when you are wearing a dress.
You have to have a short sleeve light knit shirt for Fall. This one is from Banana Republic and I love the deep Cinnamon color.
Ok- I LOVE these jeans from anthropologie, but they are ridiculously expensive like $235 expensive. So it is on my "if every had too much money" wish list! Anthropologie also has some less expensive jeans and they are the same brand for $178

And finally my favorite of them all... this dress sums up Fall for me with its rich colors and variety of textures. Found at where else but Anthropologie!

Getting Back in the Game

It's time for me to get serious... about loosing this baby fat. Elliott is almost 3 months old and Fall is creeping up...which means pants! I would like not to buy a whole new wardrobe for Fall and not just because I can't afford it! This week I fit into a pair of my pre-baby jeans! It was a tight fit, never-the-less I got them on!

Some of you might remember I had to cancel my gym membership after Tay couldn't find a job. My very supportive mother-in-law, Shauna, stepped in and gave me an early 3oth birthday present... some cash to get a years membership at the gym!

So the goal has been set:

Currently I weight 150 :(

The short Fall goal is 140 ;)

The ultimate goal is 130 :)

This coming week I start school. So I need to get very organized to be able to accomplish this goal. For Tue and Wed I work and goto school from 9am-9pm. So I'm making pre-made meals so I don't starve myself to death and then eat whatever crap is available. After this week I will be able to get a better idea of when I can slip some exercise into my busy schedule. Luckily, there is a 24 hour fitness right next to my school!

Anyway, here is to a new Semester, Fall, and my 30th Birthday... all creeping up very fast!

I can't believe it's been two months since I had Elliott! He is now 9.15 pounds and 22 inches.

A few things I love about being a mom is being able to see the world threw Elliott's eyes. He is so amazed by the littlest things and it's so fun to be apart of that amazement. Also being able to experience Elliott's firsts... first bath, first plane ride, first meeting of the people I love... he has experienced so much in these past 2 months.

We were lucky enough to have my parents let us stay with them and Elliott LOVED being cuddled by Grandma Leasure.

Last weekend Elliott met his grandma and grandpa Williams. It was great to see them cuddle and play with him. We had a lot of fun watching them and can't wait for him to meet the rest of the Williams in a few weeks. Here are some pictures of their stay....

June 28th...Happy Birthday to Taylor and 1 month birthday to Elliott. My two guys know how to party! We had a great time with friends at the birthday BBQ yesterday and Tay and Elliott got some good gifts. Thanks to everyone for coming out and enjoying the festivities.
